Answers to Common Questions: What are you replying to? And what does “RT” mean?

On Mimo, some of the common questions we see revolve around Replies and the Copy/RT function:

    1. “Huh? What update is my friend replying to? What is he talking about?”

There are two parts to know when it comes to Replies.

The first is how to reply:

Let’s look at Eduard’s update as an example. When you hover on any update, you will see some actions you can take with that update on the lower right (left of the photo). You can Favorite it (it’s like a bookmark), Reply @, or Copy it.

If you click Reply @, Mimo will know that you are replying specifically to that update.

When Mimo replies to Eduard’s update about the rehearsal, it will look like this:

    1270693840546413_file[1]

Some points to notice in this update:

    • @eduard means the update is directed at Eduard (it’s a public update, however)
    • Below “awesome photo!” is “in reply to Eduard”. If you hover on that, you will notice you can click on it, taking you to see what that person is replying to. This is how you can track to what someone is referring.

Click on “in reply to Eduard” and you will be taken to Eduard’s original post.

So that’s pretty simple right? (Note: if you manually type @ in the update box, this is considered a general reply, and Mimo will not be able to tell if you are replying to another update specifically. This also applies to SMS replies.)

    2. “I see RT on updates sometimes. What does that mean?”

RT is short for Retweet. Retweet is a popular term first created by the users of the popular service Twitter. Retweet basically means to copy or forward someone else’s update. You use it when you see someone else writing something interesting and you’d like to share it with your followers.

A few moments ago, we showed you Reply @. You can find the “Copy” button next to it, on the right. When you “Copy” a post, you will be taken back to the update box.

    1270693779761528_file[1]

Above, we see RT @Eduard Waiting….

Again, RT just means you’re forwarding the post. Mimo copies the original text of the update alongside any attachment for you automatically. Anyone who reads your update can tell that you are simply copying Eduard’s update and the following is what he said. You can edit the text or add your comment (we recommend adding comments at the beginning of the update) to what Eduard said as well.

How are you using Mimo? Any tips to share with the community? Post below!

      Is the Mimo Service Down?

      • mimovn 11:40 chiều on Tháng Hai 8, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh | Trả lời

Hi Pratik, Mimo is up. What problem are you having?

        • Pratik Sinha 2:30 sáng on Tháng Hai 9, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh

          Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access / on this server

Thats the error I get when I try to access mimo.vn.

        • mimovn 2:41 sáng on Tháng Hai 9, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh

That’s really odd. We haven’t see any issues from throughout Vietnam. Do you happen to know the Internet Service Provider you’re using? If you access url.mimo.vn or m.mimo.vn or http://www.mimo.vn or just http://mimo.vn, they all result in the same problem?

        • Pratik Sinha 2:50 sáng on Tháng Hai 9, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh

nothing works, all that works is blog.mimo.vn .. so basically just your wordpress site, not the app. I do not know what ISP am using, because I am staying in a hotel. However I tried going through a proxy and it results in the same problem
          http://www.faceoxy.com/index.php?q=http://www.mimo.vn. Try that.

Tried a couple more proxies besides this one, and all give the same error. So it may not be an ISP issue. This is what the whatismyipaddress.com gives me as my ISP, and it also confirms that I’m behind a proxy server.

          Hostname: proxy01-hcm.vnn.vn
ISP: Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT)
          Organization: VietNam Data Communication Company
Proxy: Confirmed proxy server. (Read about proxy servers)
          Type: Cable/DSL

          May be a proxy issue?

          Hi Pratik,
We still haven’t figured it out. It may be that your hotel itself may be using a proxy. We tested with other places using VNPT with no issues. Have you had any luck today?

    • mimovn 2:59 sáng on Tháng Hai 9, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh | Trả lời

Hi Pratik, we’re looking into it. We’ll update you as soon we have know something.

    • Pratik Sinha 4:57 chiều on Tháng Ba 17, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh | Trả lời

Well the issue was Firefox (3.6.2pre on Kubuntu 9.10). Epiphany works fine. Now the other issue I am facing is that my smses to 8045 are giving me a failed delivery and hence I can’t register my phone with the service. I have Mobifone (01289xxxxxx series).

      • mimovn 12:09 chiều on Tháng Ba 18, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh | Trả lời

Hi Pratik, thanks for the updated information. We’re looking into seeing what’s wrong and will try to have an answer for you by the weekend.

      • mimovn 11:41 sáng on Tháng Ba 22, 2010 Liên kết tĩnh | Trả lời

Hi Pratik, we’ve been getting SMS’es fine from your number series. Have you been only having trouble with the 8045 shortcode? Do normal SMS’es go through? Do you happen to remember if you’re using pre or post pay on the account?

By the way. getting to Mimo via Faceoxy was ok for us.

    It’s the Mimo Blog! (Welcome)

Hey there everyone, this our first update for the Mimo blog. If you’re reading this, you probably already know that Mimo is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family via mobile or web (or other various applications). What we’d like to do with this blog is explore the different ways to use Mimo that you may not know of and answer questions you may have in detail.

To sum that all up, we’ll use this blog to make new announcements (and cover them in more detail than we could on Mimo), answer any questions users (like you!) leave for us, and share insights into what we do here at Mimo from time to time.

P.S. This blog will have posts in both English and Tiếng Việt, so to filter your language, just look at the “Tags:” section in the middle of the column to the right.
